Course Description

This training program will follow the guidelines established by the WI Law Enforcement Standards Board as they relate to Firearms. 
The course will be a minimum of 56 classroom hours.  Instructor candidates will participate in numerous skill-building exercises.

Please note: The focus of this course is to develop marksmanship teaching skills and not basic marksmanship skills,
therefore, each candidate should have above average marksmanship skills.

Prerequisite:  CJIDC or WTCS certification course #52

Course topics include:

>  Conducting safe firearms training

>  Firearm Instructor skill development

>  Lesson plan development

>  Student evaluations

>  Remediation of student deficiencies

 

Equipment: 

~Students will need to bring their department use of force policy
~Duty gear including gun belt and firearm
~500 rounds of Handgun Ammunition, training gun (if available)
~250 rounds of Rifle Ammunition, Squad Rifle (if available)
~Appropriate training/workout clothing
~Pen and paper

Please note two new State required changes made to the Firearms Instructor Training Course:

1. There have been 16 more hours added to the new curriculum for a total of 56 hours. The new curriculum includes 4 days of pistol instruction and 3 days of rifle instruction. The officers who go through the new training will be certified as Pistol and Rifle Instructors - consistent with the new LESB certification. 

2. Another change requires officers to come the first day of class with a completed Rifle and Pistol Skills Competency Checklists (click on links below).  The checklists MUST be completed prior to class by a certified rifle and pistol law enforcement instructor.

3. Bring to class a completed DJ-LE 336 state form (click on link below).
